Historical Society

The Hinsdale Historical Society was established in 1973, the same year the Village was officially 100 years old. The purpose of the Society is to collect, preserve and promote the history of Hinsdale by making available to the public materials and information significant in this regard.
...
The Historical Society headquarters building, constructed in 1874, was donated to the Society by School District 181. It was moved in 1981 to its present park site location made available by the Village of Hinsdale. With private funding and volunteer efforts, the building was restored to house a museum illustrating life in early Hinsdale as well as offices and archives space for the Society. The museum is open to the public every Friday and Saturday from 10am - 2pm, and anytime by special appointment. The address is 15 South Clay, Hinsdale, IL 60521.

In a cooperative effort with the Village of Hinsdale and grant assistance from the State of Illinois, the Society saved the former 100 year old Immanuel Church at 302 South Grant from demolition. Renamed Immanuel Hall, the property was deeded to the Historical Society and is now undergoing renovation. When complete, Immanuel Hall will serve as an intimate, historic venue for community events.

Regular programs are sponsored in various areas of history. Guided tours of the museum and Immanuel Hall are always available. For more information on tours, upcoming programs, memberships, volunteering, researching the history of your home, or archival assistance, call the Historical Society's information number, 630.789.2600, or visit the website at www.hinsdalehistory.org
