Parking Deck Opening Thursday, July 16
    Hinsdale, IL
The Village of Hinsdale is pleased to announce the opening of the Village’s 319 space two level parking deck on Thursday, July 16.  With the opening of the parking deck, the community will now have 319 additional free parking spaces for use immediately adjacent to the Village’s central business district.
Village President Tom Cauley stated, “The parking deck will solve our downtown’s parking problem, which has existed at least since I moved to Hinsdale thirty years ago. Moreover, its location off Garfield Street is ideal. It is a short walk from shops and restaurants, and because of the slope of Garfield Street, the deck is unobtrusive and blends in with its surroundings. Also because of the slope of Garfield Street, two sides of the lower deck are open for light and air. I want to commend the Board for its hard work and thoughtful advice on this project.  In particular, I would like to thank Neale Byrnes, who acted as the Board’s liaison on the project.”
The two- level parking structure provides visitors to the community, merchants and their employees 189 street level parking spaces on the lower level of the deck along with an electric charging station and may be accessed off South Garfield Street, just south of First Street.
The Hinsdale Middle School is the primary user of the deck’s 133 space upper level, but through an intergovernmental agreement with the Village, the 133 spaces will be available to the community daily after 5 p.m. and on weekends so long as school events are not planned and when school is not in session.  The spaces on the upper level of the deck can be accessed off South Garfield and Washington Street.
Also, as part of the parking deck construction project, and accessible from Washington Street is the repaved Washington Pay lot and may be utilized by paying the hourly rate.
Those patrons wishing to park immediately adjacent to the businesses may continue to pay an hourly rate at the metered spaces.
Wight Construction designed and oversaw the construction of the $9+ million contract to build the parking deck.  Senator Glowiak, Representative Mazzochi and METRA were instrumental in identifying resources to offset the cost to the community.
