Hinsdale Wellness House     ...       Wellness House, established in 1990, is an independent not-for profit organization that offers psychosocial support and education to cancer patients, their families and friends.         ... Wellness House exists to improve the quality of life for people whose lives have been affected by cancer and its treatment. Programs are developed based on needs assessments of people affected by cancer, their loved ones and medical professionals. Programming is professionally designed and developed to reduce distress, increase hope, and help individuals connect to information, services, and others who are coping with cancer, its treatment and residual effects.           The services offered at Wellness House encompass support groups for emotional sharing and networking; education in the areas of nutrition and lifestyle; stress reduction; children and family support; exercise therapy for cancer rehabilitation and bereavement support. Participants in the Wellness House programs learn skills and strategies for decision-making, building a personal support system and improving communication. It is our goal that participants in Wellness House programs will feel less alone, regain control and establish a hopeful outlook.           All services are provided at no cost to participants and are conducted by licensed professionals. During the past twelve years Wellness House has served the needs of more than 15,000 individuals who have made more than 180,000 visits. A 5,000 square foot expansion of the facility began in April 2003 to meet the growing needs of participants.
