About Us

The Hinsdale Historical Society bridges the past, present and future by engaging the community in its history and architecture. Formed in 1975, the Society owns and maintains three historic properties in Hinsdale: the Hinsdale History Museum, Immanuel Hall, and R. Harold Zook Home and Studio.

The Hinsdale History Museum is located at 15 South Clay St. adjacent to Eleanor's Park. The museum is a restored 1874 home of a middle class Hinsdale family. Visitors may tour the restored interior, view rotating local history exhibits in the small exhibit room and purchase items relating to Hinsdale history.

Immanuel Hall is located at 302 S. Grant St. The Hall contains the Roger and Ruth Anderson Architecturral Center and the Society's extensive archival collections. The archives is open weekly and answers research requests. Using the archives is free for members and $5 for non-members. There are fees for staff conducted research, photocopies and scans. Immanuel Hall is also available for rental for community meetings, classes, recitals, and not for profit fundraisers.

The Zook Home and Studio is located in Katherine Legge Memorial Park next to the Zook designed Memorial Lodge.The buildings are still in the process of being restored, but visitors can enjoy viewing their unique architectural features.
